Summary of Key Points, Issues, Conclusions:
The Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) is an association designed specifically for college and university professionals, focused on addressing safety challenges. This website provides the latest news and safety resources on emergency planning and safety training, just to name a few.
The Research and Survey Committee provides survey and research services to members in order to help improve the organization. The Committee on Governmental Relations seeks to provide members with relevant information on government relations, including EPA and OSHA. This committee participates in the development and implementation of environmental health and safety regulations and legislations that affect higher education institutions. The Committee monitors proposed new national regulations and laws, and prepares written comments or participates in hearings regarding those issues important to colleges and universities.
The website provides more than 80 Quick Regulatory links. In cooperation with APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators), a Compliance Guide for Small Colleges was prepared to organize and simplify complex federal environmental regulations. Following work with three higher education associations, the Governmental Regulations Committee developed a white paper, “Environmental Excellence in Higher Education,” and has met with the U.S. EPA to discuss regulations regarding chemicals on campuses.
Additional committee and membership information can be found on the website.
