texThe serious study of Homeland Security is hampered by the lack of formal structure to provide content and connectivity between issues. This taxonomy is offered to fill this need. It will be continually expanded and revised by the students and faculty of Texas A&M University.

Homeland Security Inside & Out is appointment radio for the homeland security and national security communities, first responders, and all Americans interested in the security of their families. Each week, co-hosts Randy Larsen (left) and Dave McIntyre interview key leaders at the federal, state and local levels of government, plus senior leaders in the private sector, academic community, and national press. Thus the show offers information and practical advice for:

May 8: 'Bordering on Success ... or Failure'

In the latest edition of "Just a Minute for Homeland Security" (a weekly public radio commentary produced by the Integrative Center for Homeland Security at Texas A&M University and KAMU 90.9 FM), Dr. Dave McIntyre says:

"In December of 2007, the Department of Homeland Security accepted for testing a 28 mile stretch of virtual fencing along the US – Mexican border.  Five months later, they cancelled the test. Some have called this an expensive failure.  Others, a useful success."

News from ICHS
  • ICHS Director Dr. Dave McIntyre recently appeared on seven FOX News Radio Stations. He discussed the connections between border security and homeland security. The stations are: WINK Fort Myers, Fla.; KFAB Omaha, Neb.; WGY Albany, N.Y.; WIND Chicago, Ill.; KCOL Fort Collins, Colo.; KOGO San Diego, Calif.; and KPAY Chico, Calif.
  • An authority in aviation security from the European Union has joined the Integrative Center for Homeland Security at Texas A&M University to conduct a study on the differences between how the United States and the EU approach terrorism in air travel. Learn more.

  • ICHS recently brought together the members of its Fellows program from all over the United States with faculty from the Bush School of Government & Public Service to review curriculum for the university’s online Graduate Certificate for Homeland Security. Learn more.

  • ICHS has released its annual report for 2007. The report provides an at-a-glance summary of ICHS programs, their recent progress and their immediate goals. Learn more.

  • Representatives from ICHS attended the 2007 National Congress for Secure Communities, which brings together federal, state and local officials, first responders, members of the media, business leaders, non-profit organizations, academic experts and community leaders as delegates. Learn more.
  • ICHS coordinated the Continuing Education Unit program for the National Congress for Secure Communities. Delegates could sign up to earn up to 20 hours of continuing education credit at no extra charge. Learn more
  • Dr. Dave McIntyre, director of ICHS, has been elected to the board of directors for the InfraGard National Members Alliance. InfraGard provides an important link between the FBI, industry and academia. Learn more.
  • ICHS has partnered with Chameleon Associates LLC to provide continuing education units (CEUs) for Chameleon’s Behind the Scenes Seminar of Israel’s Counter-Terrorism and Security Operations. Learn more.
  • Faculty at Texas A&M have started work on building a master’s degree program that offers unique approach to homeland security studies. Enrollment is expected to start in Fall 2008. Learn more.

  • 'Homeland Security Inside & Outside' recently completed broadcast of six 10-minute interviews with each of the directors of the Department of Homeland Security's National Centers of Excellece. To learn more and to listen to any or all of the interviews, click here.

  • In the wake of the attack on the campus of Virginia Tech, which left 33 (including the gunman) dead, the ICHS offers this report: "Safe Schools: A Guide to Online Resources." This document serves as a starting point for research on school safety by providing a coherent presentation of the various resources we have examined. Click here to download the report.
