Summary of Key Points, Issues, Conclusions:
This action plan was developed to assist both school principals and department heads in preventing and preparing for a health-related emergency, such as the avian flu. The Contingency Management for Health Related Issues committee completed the initial draft of the plan, while additional personnel assisted with the drafting of the Procedural Manual. The Procedural Manual contains details for implementing each section of the plan.
The plan includes six levels of response: Mitigation/Prevention, Advanced Precautions, Surveillance and Heightened Awareness, Prepare for Proper School Closures, School Closure(s), and Recovery. The action plan includes guidelines, and provides schools and departments with the proper steps to take given specific triggers and events. Wider research regarding ongoing events world-wide and nationally will assist in the revision of the plan when new information is available.
This plan is intended to provide the most up to date information based on current data and direction from the Broward County Health Department and other organizations engaged in planning for a pandemic event.
