Summary of Key Points, Issues, Conclusions:
This report compiles general background, preliminary findings, conclusions, and recommendations from a workshop that was held for experts in the fields of higher education, federal and state emergency management.
This workshop found that communication between the leaders of education and emergency management communities is lacking as far as having a prepared plan in case disaster strikes. Also, a lack of funding and organizational resources exists.
Some critical priorities were recognized that included the development of a national center for academic continuity to serve as an information database, the need for protocols for emergencies between local, state, federal authorities and higher institutions, and the encouragement of these institutions to practice continuity planning.
