Laura Spencer joined the Integrative Center for Homeland Security on September 11, 2006 as the Center's administrative coordinator. As a part of the ICHS team, Ms. Spencer engages primarily in the research functions, direct sthe office’s graduate research assistants, and manages the Taxonomy for Education and Exploration (TEX) on the ICHS website.  Ms. Spencer received her B.A. in history and M.Ed. in secondary education from Auburn University.

Ms. Spencer came to the ICHS from the George Bush Presidential Library where she worked for 13 years.  During her tenure at the Bush Library, Ms. Spencer spent most of her time as an archivist.  Her duties involved assisting researchers, preserving the presidential and personal records of former President George H.W. Bush, and reviewing the records under applicable federal laws.

She also spent four years as the Library’s Education Specialist, designing and implementing educational programs for students and workshops for educators, as well as conducting outreach programs for local organizations.

She is married to Dr. Thomas Spencer, an associate professor in the Department of Animal Science, and has one son, three dogs, and a cat.  When she finds time to relax, Ms. Spencer enjoys reading, movies, college football, beaches, and traveling.
